About The Book
Byron Thomas is an 18-year-old openly gay student from Manila who dreams of a life beyond the limits of his homeland. Drawn to the promise of the American Dream, he leaves everything behind his family, his culture, and the only life he has ever known in search of freedom, identity, and belonging.
In the United States, Byron begins to explore who he truly is, embracing his sexuality while navigating the loneliness and uncertainty of being an immigrant in a foreign land. But beneath his newfound independence lies a growing sense of inadequacy and the quiet fear that he may never fully belong.
One night changes everything.

Once I started reading I had to know what happened next! Byron’s story is the twilight zone of going away to college. As a parent his choices scared me and yet reminded me that I was just like him when I was his age. Sometimes the less safe choices make life worth living and the best memories.
“I’m not an avid reader but every word paints a vivid scene and it truly entices me to keep reading. It brings nostalgia and I can relate to all the themes. The regrets of not being true to myself earlier on and not being out in the open sooner.”
“I started reading. It’s written so well— it really captures your voice. A bit sexy too!”
“I wasn’t aware of lenticular book covers before. I like its uniqueness. I really like the library check out card inside the back cover with the personal handwritten note.”
